FAQ
What is Jesmonite?
Jesmonite is a composite material made from water-based acrylic and mineral powder, used for casting. It contains no solvents or toxic substances, making it a more eco-friendly alternative to many other casting materials.
It is known for its unique texture, lightness, and strength – perfect for decorative and small interior details.
Is Jesmonite waterproof?
Jesmonite is not naturally waterproof, but it can be sealed to make it water-resistant. Even when sealed, it is not recommended for prolonged contact with water. Avoid dishwashers, and instead wipe it clean with a slightly damp cloth.
Most Dekaar products are sealed, either with wax or a sealant. If any products are unsealed, this information will be noted on the website.
Is Jesmonite heat-resistant?
Jesmonite is fire-resistant but not inherently heatproof. This means it can withstand high temperatures and open flame to some extent, but it is not designed for long-term exposure to direct heat or high temperatures.
While Jesmonite is fire-resistant, it is not flameproof, meaning it can still be damaged or discolored by direct or prolonged exposure to intense heat.
Is Jesmonite food-safe?
Jesmonite is not food-safe. It can be used for decorative serving ware, but we do not recommend placing food or liquids directly onto finished Jesmonite products.
Bubbles and imperfections
Bubbles and small surface variations are completely normal in Jesmonite. These are not flaws – they are part of what makes each piece unique. While we work to perfect our products, some bubbles and irregularities are inevitable in handmade items.
Can Jesmonite go in the dishwasher or microwave?
Jesmonite is not suitable for dishwashers or microwaves. The material cannot withstand the high heat and moisture levels found in these appliances.
How long does it take to make a product?
All our products are handmade and go through several processes that require different curing times. A product typically takes 4–5 days to complete.
Most of the products on our website are in stock and can be shipped immediately. However, if an item is sold out or if you would like customizations such as changes in color, it may take a bit longer before the product is shipped.
